Since I have removed the marine head from my boat (now have porta-potti) and the forward sink/vanity ( now have hanging space with cool teak mag. rack) I have no need for the access door to the thru-hull that lies in the bottom of the v-berth. I capped the thru-hull off and intend to leave it operational in case the next owner wants to change things back..... Anyway..... I thought a drawer might be a nice thing to have there instead of just an opening that I no longer need to access. Would be a big hit with the Warden (read: spouse) to have a nice place to put a few things that are close at hand while sleeping in the forward berth. Has anyone made this modification and how did it go? I figure I could use the access door as the front of the drawer and build-up the drawer frame behind the frame that is already there. Sounds simple enough? Any thoughts?
Nate, We had no access, just under the cushions, to the area you are discribing when we first purchased our boat. I cut two openings, one just under the V berth and one to the starboard side just in front of the bulkhead. Both allow for easy access to that huge area under the V berth. The drawer idea sounds good, but you will lose storage area. Maybe two shallower draws would allow for the difference in the contour of the bow. Just a thought.
