The smoke arrived here in Las Vegas this morning carried by a west wind. I can only imagine what it must be like in San Diego!! Hopefully all of you guys out that way are safe......

I'm in the middle of central California, about a 4 hour drive north of LA. We had smoke streaking through the skies last night and this morning. It is being pushed up and over the Tehatchapies (SP is very bad on that one). My car pool partner is a volunteer fireman, he was saying that the fire area is about the size of Rode Island. My mom told me that the daughter of a friend is in town with her family because the fire was 2 miles from their house.
Tis indeed a gray day. However, Jim and "Spike" are down near Escondido in northern San Diego county in an area where fire was threatening them on three sides. We just get lots of smoke from a distance...from south and north as the winds continue to shift. My parents live in Hesperia directly in the path of the advancing fire line near Silverwood Lake. They were evacuated at 3:30 am today and are waiting for word to return home. My sister is a horse person with a big dually and a big trailer and a ranch out near Barstow. She has been driving back and forth to the Hesperia area collecting horses from people in the affected areas. She is boarding their horses for them. This fire affects all of us. Maybe the cooling trend (even a prediction of snow for the higher elevations near Big Bear) will stop this onslaught. Pray for the folks who've lost their homes and their relatives.
Gary, My wife and I live on an acre, we have minature goats and a miniature horse, we are set up for a couple more. We have two stalls with padocks attached. If you need room let me know. I didn't talk to the admrial, but I'm sure it would be OK
Just got back from running a couple errands around town....my 2 year old is really freaked out by all the smoke. Kept saying "Where did the mountains go?" Tried explaining to her that the smoke is from a fire far away....no luck! I just know we are going to get hammered with tons of Resp stuff at work (E/R)....should make for a long weekend! I can picture the cloud of Albuterol mist hanging in the air of the E/R. Hopefully folks will heed the warnings and stay indoors!! Pray for rain...........
