Revisiting a common topic.

Cruisenews.net posted a link to some very effecient 'conventional' 12/120V refrigeration units. Not cheap, but unlike thermoelectric designs, these will freeze (or maintain a constant 40 degrees depending on thermostat setting).

There are a variety of models.. for the mid-size models, power consumption on 12V is 2.7A for freezing temps at ambient 84 degrees F.

The unit only requires .7A for maintaining 40 degrees at the same ambient temperature.

At any rate... for your perusal.

I first saw those units at the rally in Pensacola.

I like the idea of a portable unit because you could use the Catalina ice chest for dry food storage.

Has anyone installed a water maker?

My main interest in some sort of onboard refigeration is thinking ahead to a hoped-for 3 week criuse in the Sea of Cortez (Baja) in a couple years.

Ice is expensive and hard to come by down there, but solar power is plentiful.
