Installed the main breaker today....perfect fit, to the left of the gas solenoid control panel.....dual pole, reverse polarity indicator. I was mighty happy with myself.

Took all the stuf out of the MRI chamber and piled it forward. I removed aft bulkhead to hook up the fm antenna to the back stay. I had thrown the cushions on top of the pile. After rummaging through the parts department in the garage for a while, I was sitting on the bottom step crimping a terminal onto the coax when I smelt something......something bad...burning....then there was smoke....holy ^%$# the cushion was on fire. Those little spotlights in the overhead next to the compression post get hot, very, very hot. The cushion had been leaning against the post and had fallen over, just under the light. The smoke made breathing very difficult...it had a distinctly toxic bouquet. I got the cushion away from the light, opened the hatch and with a wad of wet paper towel extinguished the smoldering fabric. Turns out the entire commotion resulted from a "fire" only just a bit larger than a quarter......

It all made me think.......about taking more care, about how I could have gone inside for dinner, and about how a similar situation when one is alseep could get out of hand in a hurry. A very small space does not need a lot of smoke to fill up, maybe a smoke detector would not be a bad idea.......

Luckily the burnhole is in a spot where I doubt it will be noticed after I patch it up. Just by me, once in a while as a reminder.

Momma said there'd be days like that......

Mighty glad the reminder will be so small... compared to a charred spot in the drive way.

Glad to hear it was no worse than a lesson learned & that you're safe. I knew those lights were hot, but I didn't know they were that hot!

It sounds like you will have no trouble keeping food warm that sits on your table.

A dilemma... I like the smoke detector idea, but the ones we have in the house are very sensitive to high humidity and condensation (such as from the shower). I wonder, on those cool nights when our warm breath is condensing on everything in the cabin--especially if it's raining outside--will we get a rude awakening?

I haven't, yet. Of course, I may not condense as much as you.
