Installed Arlyns open wire steering mod this summer. What a difference! There is no play and very little drag in the system and the steering ratio increased 100%. I can pretty much steer with 1 finger on the helm. I always hated the stiffness of the helm, it made it difficult to make small adjustments. This has also made it alot easier on the auto pilot. Installation only took about 6 hrs and was pretty simple. I think overall design is good. If you have the tooling parts are easily made or Arlyn has a kit. I have only sailed about 400 miles with the mod so a can't speak to the durability of it yet. However If any changes need to be made they would be fairly easy to do. This is one of the best mods I've put on the boat.
