Before I leave to spend the weekend sailing (and I was out last night, too) here is a quote from Hal Roth "Two on a Big Ocean"

"The relationship between the sea and a man is the same sort of stuff as between a man and a woman. The best parts of it are unspoken matters of the senses and the guts. You can't talk about it because no one is skilled enough. The words don't exist. It is personal and private and if you know it you feel it. If you don't, you don't There is no nonsense with mere words..."

I have spent most of my life with the sea. All of the best parts, that's for sure (plus some of the worst). 10 years surfing every day. 3 boats, always wanting to go back out as soon as I got in. Fishing, swimming, diving, beachcombing, collecting shells. Our year long voyage Milwaukee to the Bahamas was not enough. Now sailing 5 days per week (or more if possible).

This is something I feel and don't share with the mass of humanity here in Southern CA (most of whom have never left the shore). See you out there!

I know what you mean...I, too, find it difficult to explain to others, including my family, the pull that the water has on me.

Coming soon - a new tech tip, fully illustrated, on how to raise the mast and launch an 89 wing (at ultra low tide due to the lunar eclipse)!

It's great to have Gary and Susan and Classical Cat in the slip next to me.

That's a great quote!

The sheer expanse of that humanity here makes it somewhat difficult to get out of town and "get away from it all". By car, in any direction it takes me at least 2 hours to get out of town. By plane, it takes about the same time (airport drive, park, check-in, boarding, etc.). I'm always amazed that in only about a half-hour I can be on a boat and peacefully floating all by myself with nobody else in the way of my destiny but me, my boat and Mother Nature.

Not quite that quick, but close. The middle of the Chesapeake on a nice day, in the middle of fifty million people (NY, Philly, DC, Baltimore) and not a soul in sight. Don't tell anyone....
