I finally got my new boat fully rigged up and ready to take out sailing this weekend, and had a wondertime time despite the stormy weather. One benefit of bad weather is it does bring wind. I had steady breeze of 10-14mph from the southeast both Saturday and Sunday, and I can report that she sails beautifully! The trip odometer on the GPS shows I put 35 miles under the keel this weekend. Here are some photos:

Larry, can you compare the performance between QT I and QT II?

Great pics! There is a C25 moored in Onset Harbor, near the Cape Cod Canal, also named "Quiet Time".

Nice boat, Larry.

You need to move your jib sheet to the outboard side of your lifelines, because it looks like it is hanging up on them.

Will he be able to sheet in tight then without hanging up the other way? I remember my C-30 having the same problem, and opting for Larry's compromise as it is less stress on the life line than the other way....Only if I had a long run off the wind would I re-route them.

Catalina confused things with the mark iv they moved the genoa track inboard and screwed up the lead

The two boats seem surprisingly similar in the "seat of the pants feel" of sailing them. I would have expected the new boat to be more "tender" since the center of gravity of the ballast mass in the wing keel is something like 18" higher than in the swing keel. Another surprise was that the new boat sails upwind quite well on just the jib, whereas "QT1" could not do better than a 80ยบ close reach on her jib. Maybe "QTII" has a better headsail, or maybe the inboard genoa tracks on the Mk IV make a difference? Speed through the water seems about the same, except that the new boat feels like it accelerates much faster in wind gusts and when sheeting in on a tack change. I think the wing keel has less drag than the swinger since there is no keel trunk to disturb laminar water flow, and the wing is faired to smoother shape, especially on the leading edge. The lowered boom of the tall rig on the new boat will take some getting used to - it's definately a head-banger.
