I have a 96 250 WB. The centerboard has a lot of slop in it from port to starboard. When anchored or on a run with even a moderate swell, you hear the centerboard loudly banging from side to side against the centerboard trunk. Has anyone had this problem and how did you fix it?
It needs shims to hold the board centered and tight. These can be obtained from Catalina or can be made if you have some nylon or durable plastic sheat materiel. I made my own using hole saws.
It will be necessary to jack up the front of the boat a little which can be done by raising the front of the trailer, then blocking the bow up from the ground. Then lower the trailer jack. Measure the play and decide if one shim will be used to fill the gap or two, having one on each side. Remove the four bolts holding the two centerboard pivot pin blocks and remove the blocks, add shims to the shaft and reinstall the blocks looking for a good snug fit between the shims and the blocks.
Use locktite when reinstalling the bolts but not the permenent type.
