I'm sorry this thread was probably bad form but someone said in an earlier thread something about sailing vicariously through those of us that are able to sail through the winter so I was trying to give you a little lift until that time when we are all back on the water. Sure beats fussing with each other.
Anyway, sailing is my passion and living in Arkansas there aren't very many people around to talk about it with so this is my only outlet so please be patient when I get excited about an excellent sailing weekend. I don't mean to rub it in, I just want you to remember the feelings you have when you're looking foreward to a nice weekend sailing. Thats what we're all here for.
I'll raise a toast for all those wanting to be there and can't.

WHOOOOAAA Charlie!...no need to apologize about talking about sailing just because some of us are temporarily "on the hard". I am NEVER offended when others who can sail year round talk about it and I believe that goes for mostly everyone, so by all means, do post what you did yesterday, what you are going to do today, next weekend, next month,...etc, because ain't nothin wrong with that!

Venice Inlet: Wind SE, late afternoon SW 8/10K. Clear, sunny, temp low 80"s, very lite chop. Spent 1st hour setting up new autopilot (Tiller--raytheon) next two hours sailing, feet up, exchanging sailing lies with buddy, to slip, swim laps in pool, home to perfect pot roast I had in slow cooker all day, glass wine, all is well. Please do NOT all move to Florida at once, God Bless, fait winds, ron srsk Orion 1981 #2343

Had a GREAT day racing Gary and Susan on their 89 wing tall rig around Mission Bay (while the wind lasted). With my 155 and his 110 up, we were very even. I had as crew one of the guys on our dock who owns a Cal 28. He taught me a lot about sail trim and tactics. We also sailed my boat MUCH harder than I ever did before (I now know that the C25 will round up when it heels too much!)

Even with the different headsails, Gary was quite a bit faster in light air and down wind. I think I was a little faster and could point higher in moderate to strong winds.

Back in the slip by 4 PM with 0 wind. Cleaned up, home by 6. Nothing broke. Rained all the way on the drive home.

Susan and I had a terrific afternoon sailing on our boat today in Mission Bay, San Diego. I was pleased to see that Jim and Sal (our new racing buddy) were able to give us some excellent competition during our 2 boat, impromptu, head-to-head "battle". It made for some fun sailing all around. In the really light stuff later on in the day, Sal was able to coax just a little more speed out of Jim's 150 versus our 110.....but then the wind completely died as Jim stated above. Who won you ask? Who cares we all reply. We all are doing some learning and will be setting up some courses to sail for next Saturday's match-up. Because of the coolness and the occasional light rain there were very few boats on the water. So much the better for us today. It was a glorious sailing day....
Jim, it poured around Temecula this evening coming homeand the drivers were absurd on the freeway as usual.
Can't wait to get out on the water again.

Weekend forcast: Cartersville, GA.

At work, reading sailing magazines, playing solitare, and praying that a customer will come in.

I don't mind the winter sailing reports. They make me happy.

Keeping the dream alive,

I picked up my asymmetrical spinnaker from the sail loft on Friday. It only cost me $25.00 to fix a 4" inch tear.

Read my new issues of the Mainsheet and Cruising World.

And last night I won the Texas Hold'em poker tournament that my friends had organized.

The rain started about 11 am up here. On the way down for a visit in the OC, I stopped by Minney's. It's a simple pleasure to rummage around Minney's when it's raining and cold outside. For $7 I picked up a few misc. teak pieces for an interior project I've been thinking about for some time.

it really was fun Gary, and I need some more days like that - you guys are going to have to teach me to race and give me time to learn. There is so much more to this than just sailing!

With my boat at the dealer's I had the pleasure of catching up on a few pre-winter chores around the house. The best part of the weekend was watching my wife sew up a new tiller sock and a mast notch in my boomtent/cabintop cover. This is the boom tent that we added snaps to so it snaps on the pop-top tent snap anchors around the cabin. It will protect the cabin and companionway while we are not at the boat.

Got down to the lake this morning and found out the winds were 30 to 35 with gusts to 38 yesterday. Of course I was busy working on our new 32' fifth wheel.

Today the wind never went above 3 knots. Most of the time there was zero wind so we just sat at the docks and enjoyed the mid 60 degree weather here in southern Colorado.

Thanks for all the replys!
The weather channel was right about friday, it was cold and wet but saturday was suppose to be fairly nice with 10-15mph winds so I loaded my 4 year old son up and we headed off to the lake. No sun and winds were around 3-8 mph. That wasn't going to stop us so I rigged up PanaceaII and we headed out. Ended up finding some 8-10 winds (on inland lakes you sometime have to go "hunting" for the wind) and sailed 10 miles. Sun peeked though once but we still had a good time. Sunday woke to overcast skies and dead calm. Decided if we couldn't sail we'd motor to a cove down the lake and have a picknick. Within fifteen minutes of getting out on the lake the wind picked up from the south at a steady 10-15 and we were off and running. Around 4 the sun broke through and the skies cleared and the wind started to weaken. We sailed till 5:30 watching the sun go down as we entered the cove to head home.
Good end to a bad start and new memories for my son and I to share.

It was cloudy, foggy, cool, drizzly and dead calm in Tulsa all weekend, so I was wondering how you were getting on. Sounds like you had a stellar weekend, Charlie. You certainly can't beat those memory makers with your kids!

"Cleaning house, and the weather is fine"
Gee JB sounds umm... kinda domestic, you don't have a new girlfriend now do you?
My house cleaning has gone down in direct proportion to the time spent on PanaceaII.
It wasn't a great wind weekend but with Chauncey (my son) it was a great sailing weekend!
When will you have Antares back in the water?
This is one of the best times of the year for sailing around here.
(Least it was last year!)

Naw, I've had the house on the market for nine months and, therefore, haven't been able to neglect it as much as I would like.

Antares is still wet, although the main, rudder, tiller and steps are in my garage. Hopefully, I'll have those projects done by the end of January so I can run her up to be hauled out for a much needed bottom job. If it's not too cold or too humid, she should be back in the water by April for spring sailing and maintenance.
