I wonder if anyone has used the West Marine Peel Away paint stripper and how you liked it (or didn't like it)? Did it take long to work or require a 2nd application? I am thinking of using it this weekend if the temperatures aren't too cold (around 60F days).
Secondly, I have a 1989 C25 and would like to rebed the stanchions. Unfortunately the nuts inside the cabin are concealed beneath the overhead liner on this model (unlike on my 1980, where they were fully exposed and accessible) - there is a gap but is there a tool one can use that can bend around and hold the nuts so the stanchion bolts can be removed? Has anyone removed the stanchions on a 1989-type C25 without drilling access holes thru the liner?
This is a pop-top model if that makes any difference.
I haven't used West Marine's paint stripper, but I have used Interlux stripper and also paint strippers that I bought from automobile paint supply stores that are used for fiberglass automobiles, and they all work about the same. The strippers for fiberglass cars are much less expensive, of course.
Hey Daniel, I too have an 89 WK and want to rebed the stanchions. I hope someone has a good idea. I'll look at the problem again and let you know if I have any big ideas short of getting out Mr. Rotozip.
If no one offers a solution to removing the the stanchions I'd contact the technical assitance department at Catalina Yachts . . . they're very helpful.
