I just want to thank you for such a great forum. I attached a jib downhaul that I learned about on this forum to my jib during my solo sail today. What a difference. I did not have to get on deck to douse the jib prior to coming in to the marina. What a significantly safer way to accomplish this task..Thanks to all, a great resourse for a newbie. Yes. IMHO Follows.
Technically you're probably more correct in that a dousing line is specific to bringing sails down to the deck. Downhaul is more 'generic' for a line that pulls something (anything) down toward the deck.
