favorite lake proposing to ban gas engines anyone w/ experience using electric motor for c-25 like how do they work getting in and out of narrow channels to harbors on windy days? need replys urgently if possible as am writing appeal of decision this week

What size and where is your lake. I would think that a lake large enough to sail a Cat 25 would encourage a gas motor as a safety issue if nothing else. I don't know anything about electric motors except trolling motors. Maybe there is a model that wou

I can understand them going to a ban on 2 stroke engines as many states have. I can't understand a ban on 4 strokes unless the lake is to be used for drinking water. Using a lake for drinking water would also exclude septic systems for shoreline homes and

I don't recall exactly where I saw it, somewhere on the net I think, but I believe that electric boat motors for all kinds of boats are quite common in Europe. They are ahead of us in environmental matters. Does anyone know how to contact the brethren ove

I saw an electric outboard at Strictly Sail in Chicago a few years back. Very heavy and very expensive. I think your best bet is a high power trolling motor.

Take a look at www.rayeo.com. 5 HP is the highest output electric outboard offered and requires 10 batteries (700-800lbs). With that much added weight and only 5hp I would have to cast a vote for unsafe.

I've watched some Ensigns (23' full-keel day sailers) with electric trolling motors at a local sailing school--they barely drift in and out of their slips (which is all they need to do)--absolutely silently. From what I've seen, I'd have to say that you
