I'm wondering what the opinion is in the forum on painting a Catalina 25 hull to make it shiny again. My boat is an '80 and the gelcoat could be described as "dead"--not shiny anymore. If I use rubbing compound anymore I will quickly get down to bare fibe

There is an article on the Sailnet website by Don Casey which talks about applying poly paint via the "roll-and-tip method". I'm going to attempt it this spring on my '79 C25. The link is:

Have you tried rubbing compound and wax? When I first got my boat, it had lots of oxidation and a dull hull. Buffing the hull with rubbing compound and two coats of paste wax made a world of difference. It doesn't look like new. But it's good enough fo

Before attempting to paint, why not try one of the new hull restoration products on the market. I used Vertaglas on a 20 runabout that had a faded grey hull. I was inpressed with the results and it was not hard applying the 3 part system. I believe Lov

Has anyone used one of the "restoration" products for more than a year? I recall when I bought the boat it had some kind of "miracle" coating on it that was peeling and was a major pain to get off (rags & acetone). Have the products improved in the last

Lots of people swear by PoliGlow, which takes several coats to build up some gloss. You just wipe it on. I'm trying it this Spring... Check out www.poliglowproducts.com.

Most of the brokerages hear and detail shops use 3M fiberglass restorer/polish and a good buffer. Ill be doing mine this spring.

I have done the hull and topsides of my 1980 C25 with PoliGlow and was pleased with the results. Each coat takes about 2-3 minutes to dry, but you need a minimum of six coats to get a gloss. The cleaner that comes with it is fantastic, and is necessary

I'll warn you up front that I'm very anal retentive when it comes to working on my boat. I've tried several different combinations of product and equipment to achieve a mirror finish on Ode to Joy's hull, #2428, 1981.
