I recently purchased a 1980 Catalina 25 that has windows that leak. I took two windows out and replaced the molding (Catalina Direct) that goes around the glass, using the silicone that they suggest. My problem is that the window is still leaking. Any ideas what I might have done wrong or tips from someone who has done this successfully. The molding does seem to buckle at the corners, and I think that's where it's leaking. Any suggestions on eliminating the buckling? I'm so frustrated that I'm thinking about repacing the windows. Has anyone did that and what windows do you suggest?

Hi, John...Welcome to the club!

You may get more responses if you post this question on the C25 side of this forum, although I'm sure these C250 owners would be more than happy to offer some assistance.

Here's a link to a window topic that has some info.

http://www.catalina25-250.org/forum/topic.asp?ARCHIVE=true& TOPIC_ID=3588

You can also do a search (at the top of the page) to find more info. Just remember to select the appropriate forum(C25) and also select "Archived Posts" to get more responses.

Haven't heard of many C250 owners report window leaks.

Thanks for the forum link, Don. I think my problem was not using the silicone liberally enough and not stretching the glazing. I'm going to have to do it over.

I know the word "silicone" is used somewhat generically for caulk, but you do know not to use Silicone for sealing out moisture, right?

Don, I got the impression from the link that you sent me to that I should use polysulfide. Is that correct and where do I get it? Catalina Direct sent directions and in those directions they told me to use me to use Life Seal, which combines polyurethane and silicon. Was that a mistake and could that be the source of my problem ?

John,

From what I've read, the silicone/polyurethane sealant(LifeSeal) is a hybrid that can be used where normal silicone sealants shouldn't be used.

Like you, I used LifeSeal as per CD's instructions on a window last year, so I hope it is okay.
