Just received word from the dealer that our new 9.8 xls is schedule for arrival the 19th. Don't know if we will be able to pick it up until after Christmas, since all the "chillen" are coming home this year. Be assured as soon as we get it installed I will give all the report. Took 10 days off for Thanksgiving and went to Arkansas for visit with the General's folks. The return trip was a little trying since we added a new second mate for Penny II. She was yanking on the jib sheet as soon as she went aboard, so I guess she will be traveling on all cruises and maybe a race or two.

Maybe she ought to meet Duncan our navigator. He could show her the ropes and teach her a thing or two about boating. Here's Duncan as navigator. I believe he was saying something like, "Skipper, you need to leave the green bouys on the starboard side." And here he is in the first mate's chair, discussing the days events with the skipper. Enjoy your new crew and definitely take her on all cruises, Duncan made it all the way to the Bahamas.
Spike, he sure is a beauty. The General will go nuts when she sees these pictures. We have had Dauchshunds for over 40 years and at one time breed them when we were in California. Holly, I am sure will be a intergal part of the crew for many years too come. The snow flakes are great on the forum, which is the only place, other than under my skies, I hope to ever see them again.
One of these days my fingers will work as fast as the brain, I HOPE!

I think that was Jerry, aka Frog that should be going to the bloopers page and a contender for the Hall of Fame for that one...Dan #727...still waiting to hear from Frank Butler in regard to the topic of "spider cracks"...
This is not my first trip there and I will assure you it won't be the last. Just remember "what goes around comes around". Received new EM form dealer that the engine should arrive on the 16th. Hope it does, that way I can pick it up before Christmas. If not, will have to wait until all the "chillen" leave.
Just received and EM from the dealer, the engine did not make the boat and therefore will not ship until the last of January. It is amazing sometime how much more accurate this forum is vs the distributers and the dealers!!!!!
I would assume that it is in Japan since it is coming by boat, but I really don't know for sure. The distributer was passing his info to the dealer from his bill-of-lading which showed its arrival to be today in Texas.
Frog The dockmaster at my marina has a dachsund that could be twins with your new addition and what really cracks me up is its name is Cleat. It looks just like one! Every morning this summer I would lay on the deck while Cleat tried to crawl underneath my neck and just made a big fuss out of nuzzling me and I have to say it was a nice warm feeling to start your day with. Pretty silly for a 47 year old man but what the heck... Bill
I don't think it is silly even for a 64 year old. It is just a pleasure to get that kind of true affection from something or someone other than your mate. Dachsund's are a breed like no other and to think that they were bred as hunter/killers doesn't somehow fit their personality today.
Update on the new Tohatsu XLS (25"). Just received word from my dealer that Tohatsu has advised him that the new XLS will not be available until April. They are still having problems correcting the design problems in the mount. I have been told, the problem is the engine will not tilt up far enough to keep it totally out of the water at more than 5 deg. of heel.
Thanks for the evenings giggle lady and gents....as a vegetarian and cat owner I'll stay out of the dog story...... Frog, APRIL??? are they nuts? I assume they have offered to refund you all your money so you can go and buy something else and go sailing?

Everyone knows not to buy version 1.0 of software. With all of the issues the Tohatsu/Nissan is having getting to market it really makes me wonder if it will be wise to buy one before '06. The practical Sailor report on smaller engines sure was impressed with Yamahas' focus on little things that matter a lot. They pretty much convinced me that Yamaha may be the right sailboat ob company.
Me thinks, I'm glad that my new ob will not be the xls 4 stroke! but rather an environmentally unfriendly 2 stroke that'll burn 6 gallons per year max!
I have not looked for a different engine since I have my 1988 sailmaster on the boat presently. As for the money, they have not made that offer nor have I requested it. I may just go looking if the date slips anymore or the April date becomes the end of the month. I would like to have the new engine before the big race the first of May. Does Yamaha have a 4 stroke XLS and what does it weight?
Hi Frog, sorry to hear about your vender troubles with the motor. I love the pics of your dog though, and Spike's pic of her "navigator." The one of him reading the charts is excellent.
