Been trying to think of something different to do with our Frostbite Race in January. It usually has low attendance (I think only 5 boats last year). We always have wind, but you never know what the temp will be. One year, short sleaves, the next, parkas.
Anyone have any interesting experiences with Frostbite races they can share. Looking for something to entice more sailors.
One year we match raced Lasers in a terrible, rotten, no good, very bad day. In a blizzard. Raced in the yacht club basin, and each person raced exactly one race. Afterwards we adjourned to the bar for hot food and hot toddies (what a great idea, Frank)
A match race series might be an interesting way to have a frost bite race. Could structure it like the playoff system the ncaa division 1 schools don't have. Having a double elimination series to determine final places, allowing everyone to race more than once.
Allow warm shots of Jack Daniels to be taken while racing and the heat will take care of itself...grant it, you may not come anywhere close to the finish line when it is all said and done!
OK, not meaning to be a bummer, but rmemeber if it is really cold you want to stay away from the booze. Alchol physically will lower your temperature even more. I know it feels like its warming you and I like it when it is cold, but don't use it if you are in danger of hypothermia.
