Hi everyone,

I often check the sailboats up for auction on eBay, and I ran across this one this morning. It is advertised as a "1974 Catalina Clipper MK26" ... what is that??? I've never seen one of these before:

Buzz,

I agree that it looks like a Clipper Marine. Although I think they were drawn by a big name designer, they were very poorly built, no competition for Catalina or Hunter, more like a MacGregor at best.

Hi Buzz,

John and Leon are correct. It's a Clipper Marine 26. Lightly built in the '70s for the most part. Never any part of the Catalina production.

As I recall the reverse bow curve was a Clipper deal, seems like the made a little cutter too.

The "Clipper Marine" boats were very lightly built... and make a MacGregor look pretty stout. Nothing really wrong with the lines though.

As I recall, a real weakness was that they used aluminum pop-rivets to hold the deck and hull assemblies together. A bit of corrosion, a bit of stress and they would literally 'unzip'. I remember reading that some folks were drowned on SF bay some years back when one did the unzip routine out in "the slot". They also made a 30' model that was fairly popular as a poor man's cruiser. (river/lake/bay only).
