New anti-spam law went into effect Monday and I have noticed a significant drop in spam. I get all spam in my jubnk e-mail box, and generally empty that box in one stroke. I also get e-mails in that box from businesses that I have done business with - like Sailnet, these may or may not get read, but are deleted with that same single keystroke.

Patrik's e-mail came from the forum - thanks Spike for blocking this guy. We can send e-mails to each other by:

clicking on member
clicking on specific member name
clicking on "send e-mail"
completing the message

Then that message comes to us a message from the forum, and as Don L said, "I'd open it too!" So would I. One advantage of this junk mail is that sender, theoritically, does't have your e-mail address.

At that point our remedy is to send Spike a message alerting her of the situation, blocking the sender from sending e-mails, and having register as another newbie.

Suspect more e-mails will come to us that way in future as the other junk is dried up and forums like this will have to make decisions about protecting members from attacks through the forum. Its a sad world out there, let's get back to basics and go sailing, ya' come on spring!

Not only is this SPAM. It is also an attempt at fraud. Historically, there is no money available and the recipient of the letter will be asked to put some money up front as a gesture of good faith. Similar to the scams perpetrated on the elderly. Avoid at all costs and find an appropriate authority to whom you can report.
Possibly your State Attorney.
