Greetings All! Has anyone yet solved the "locker popper" problem which was discussed some on the forum about a year ago? For those not familiar with this, it involves a sudden popping sound which occurs when one stands on one of the cockpit coaming locker lids (On my boat it occurs on the port side locker.)This appears to result from a design flaw which allows for too much flexibility in the lid material. I thought I had solved this problem once by adding heavy duty weather stripping on top of the locker rim. It worked until the repeated flexing of the lid simply pushed the weather stripping off the rim. I discussed this problem with the people who do occasional work on my boat, and even they seemed stumped. Does anyone have an answer, short of reinforcing the lid with layers of extra fiberglass?......or maybe I should just "cry uncle" and get on with my life....eh?

I have only had the "locker popper" happen to 1 or 2 times but it has never happened since I added cockpit cushions in the spring of 2001.
I agree with Brian, when I purchased my C 250 almost three years ago it came with custom made full length cushions, I am 6'0 and weigh over 200 and stand on the locker lids frequently. I never have heard the "popping" sound unless it is greatly muffled by the cushion being over the top of the lids. "Bear"
Guess I've been lucky with regard to the popping (hasn't happened), but wonder...did the added weather stripping keep water out of the locker? After a heavy period of rain or running the hose, I always find more water in the port side locker. Not dry storage by any means.
I have never had water in either locker unless I washed the boat while on the hard, I think that water in the locker during foul weather is partially related to the angle the stern sets in the water. If you look at the lip under the lid you can understand how water can get into the locker, also it is important to keep the area under the lid clean from debri e.t.c. Just my two cents "Bear" in upstate N.Y.

Yes, the weather stripping did seem to help with the water leakage issue. I have weather stripping on the starboard side locker and it's always dry.
Yep, got the port popper, with or without cushion. Have actually trained myself not to step on it without thinking about it...... Thought about screwing in a few rubber stoppers, the kind they sell for putting under the legs of chairs.....they even come in white.

I saw something on the 2004 model that may help fix this problem. The lockers have 3 hinges instead of 2. I don't know what model year this change took place. My 2000 only has 2 hinges.

Us too! It seems the lid on our port side locker is not set exactly centered and with enough force some rain will run over the edge of the rain-gully and into the locker. Haven't solved the problem, but we put a thin plastic grate in the bottom so things don't get wet. Don't have any problems with the starboard locker.
We have also had the popping occassionally, but not often enough to bother us & mostly when we have too much stuff crammed in the locker.
