Did anyone else here attend the Cleveland Boat Show? My wife and I drove up from Columbus and really enjoyed it. In particular, I like the C310 and the C387. I didn't really care too much for the C400, actually. I did fall in love with the Tartan 4100. At a price of $350,000.00 though, I think it will be a looong time till I get one. Also went aboard an Island Packet. That is a nice boat. What is the problem with them though? I remember reading they're not good if you like sailing. Too bad, beautiful boat. I also went aboard the Beneteau 40+ foot boat (can't remember the exact lenght, but longer than the C400). It sure was pretty inside, but I was suprised it was priced so much less that the C400. Made me think the quality really wasn't there.
I also went aboard the new Mac 26M and a Mast 28, another water ballast power sailer, but for about $50k. It was fun to look.
Hi, Ben, Another Ohioan here. I have not yet been to the Cleveland BOat Show, but plan to go before it closes. I also love the Tartans, but can't, won't, afford them, at least not new. I recall you sail on the reservoir up near Delaware, the name of which I obviously forget. For fun next year, you might plan to go to the sail boat show in Annapolis, almost always in Oct. It is all sailboats (power boats are the week before or after) and Annapolis is DELIGHTFUL. By next Oct the place should be pretty well recovered from the hurricane. I sail on Atwood Lake, a peewee lake south of here. If you are up this way some time is sailing weather, drop me a note.

Ben: Island Packets are not known for speed, but they are known as very capable blue-water boats with good directional stability, easy motion through heavy seas, and easily-controlled rigs. A friend single-hands her IP 40-something from Miami through the Bahamas and down into the Caribbean. She was featured in an ad for one of the furler systems (in Sail and Cruising World), shown on the foredeck of her cutter-rigged IP. Attractive woman on an attractive boat!
Beneteaus don't seem to have the quality of Catalinas, and are sold pretty bare in order to keep prices low. They sell a gajillion boats all over the world.
The family and I drove up from Cincinnati saturday. Did you have the ice storm on the way up? The largest cruiser on our lake is 32ft. and there are only a few, so it was nice to check out some big cruisers. I was supprised by the 41 ft. Hunter, it seemed larger than the Catalina. But, then again at times, I was doing more damage control with the kids than really looking at boats. It wasn't Chicago or Annapolis, but when the Cincinnati show doesn't have any sailboats, Cleveland is pretty good. Got to get on some nice sailboats, rode the ferris wheel, kids got to make a wooden sailboat and we went swimming at the hotel. Not a bad road trip, considering it was 20 something degrees out. My brother-inlaw told me they made one of the big bombers in that building during wwII.
Loren Thanks for the invitation. Both sets of my grandparents and other relatives used to live on Atwood Lake in the Arrowhead community. I spent a large part of my childhood there. My aunt & uncle (Martha & Roger Olsen) bought my grandparents former house up there just a couple years ago, in fact. So next time I'm up in warm weather I'll drop you a line. The second C25 I looked at to buy is up in Atwood. It is RONAN II, owned by Rodney Weber (I think). Nice boat, but terrible blisters and trailer condition.
Dave Thanks for the info about the IP. Next to the Tartan, I think the IP would have been boat I most coveted. Unfortunately, it will be a pipe dream for a while I recon.
Kip, Glad to hear you didn't have any problems in the ice storm. My wife and I got up to the show early, when it opened, so we didn't get caught in the storm until the drive back, around 2:30pm. I didn't get on any of the Hunters. By the time we got on all the Catalinas, a handful of Beneteaus, the C&C and the Tartan, and after looking at the venders, eating, admiring the Amature Wooden Boat Builders' boats, we were pretty pressed for time. I wanted to ride the Ferris Wheel, but again. Time. The last time I rode it, it scared the heck out of me. I'm not real good with heights, and that is the biggest wheel I'd ever been on. Fun, though.
Hi, guys, Just thought you might be interested in an unusual thing happening at the Cleve boat show. Carl Jara, a sand sculptor, is sculpting throughout the show. here is his website with some photos of the sandsculpture at the show. He will be at the show throughout the run.
