I just got back from spending a few days in Coeur d'Alene. Now I am itching to find a charter company for overnight sailboat rentals on the lake. Any of you inland sailors have a reference for me? TIA Chris
Coeur d'Alene is simply beautiful isn't it? If you liked it in the Winter, you'll love it in the summer. Get bored with it? Then there's lake Pend o'Reille (pronounced pond-o-ray) just up the road... 90 miles long and full of Kokanee..
I've got bad news and good news. First the bad news.
There's lots of sailing on the big lakes in northern Idaho. But, there are no sailboat charter companies on Lake Coeur d'Alene. You used to be able to rent daysailors from the North Idaho College beach area. Nothing to overnight on though.
On Lake Pend Oreile, there are two possible outfits that might have a a small sailboat to overnight on. These are MacDonalds Hudson Bay Resort in Bayview at the South end of the lake. Or, the Windbag in Sandpoint at the North end of the lake. Both had one 22 or 24 footer last year.
Reason??? The season is so short (Memorial Day to Labor Day) that it's tough to pay for the investment.
The good news is that there are many Catalina sailors on both lakes. I'm sure that you could wrangle up a ride just about any time.....BTW, Sailing out of Bayview a week ago was a bit brisk though. Temp 34F to 36F with a nice Easterly at 10 knots produced some windchill. Low clouds...no sun. But, many bald eagles to see. Dress warm!

I found the Windbag site on line, but was hoping for something on Coeur d'Alene. As to the cold, I am not crazy enough to sail over there this time of year. Over here on the Sound, I wait until its 45-50 degrees out. I was looking at something for this summer. Thanks again though for your help. Chris
