Was wanting to mount a ring on the mast for a whisker pole. Does anyone have one of these and could tell me what distance it is from the base of the mast?
This is what I used on both my 79 C25 and my new C250. WM model # 545699, $14.99. You have to reshape it a little to fit sung on the mast, but it is not difficult. As for the height, I take the largest head sail, raise it, hook the pole to the clew, extend it out then sheet in the sail to the 90 degree point and mark the mast where the pole hits and is level with the head sail clew. I have never measured it so really can't give you a number above the mast base and it will probably be a little different for each headsail size. I went out an measured it at 35" above the deck. That is for a 135 roller furling jib.

If you haven’t bought the ring yet, you might want to think about buying a piece of T-track and a pole ring on a track car. You can usually pick up both for under 40 or 50 bucks including the hardware and the two track end fittings. Its a bit more, but n doing so you’ll have the right height, regardless of the sail size. Plus, when/if you or the DFO – (dumb future owner…remember we will eventually all be DPO’s to someone) want to fly a racing spinnaker, you’ll be set.
The T-Track would ideally be about 4 to 5 feet long and would require drilling and tapping holes in the mast to fit the required size machine screw. From there it is as simple as adding the car and adding the T-Track end caps. I wish I had pictures, but as usual, whenever I do a project, I forget to add the digital camera to the required tools list.
