Up here in SF Bay we see it coming too. A doozy of a winter storm.
Forecast is for 35kts, gusts to 55, rain. 30ft. waves between Pt. Reyes and Monterey. The Pt. Reyes bouy is currently reporting swells at 18ft (1400local). Batten down the hatches.
I plan to walk over to Mavericks tomorrow and see if the big guns are out. Haven't heard if the "Men Who Ride Mountains" contest is on or not.
Jim Williams Hey Jude C25fk 2958 NOT ON SF BAY tomorrow!
I went down to the boat this afternoon and doubled up the lines... re-arranged the fenders and put an extra couple out. If you haven't been on your boat in 50+ mph winds... lemme tell you there's a heck of a lot of energy in that air. I can't imagine what full-on hurricane force winds must feel like while on the water.
I think there are still 1 or 2 slips on our dock. The marina newsletter said they were full. This is the time of year people move in, however, others move out so I'll bet you could still get in. But better act soon. Call, tell them your plans, and get on the waiting list.
Doug this would be awsome!! Finally a wing/tall I can sail against to compare speed, etc. I have never sailed alongside another wing/tall before. Don't ever remember even seeing another. Hope you can get a slip soon. Big storm coming? Hey Jim. Check on my boat if you get down to the dock Wednesday. One of my dock lines is fraying. If you have an extra line, would you mind doubling that one up for me? Thanks.
Hey, with all you California guys on one thread....any of you coming up to Portland for the Nationals in July? You all know that you are MOST welcome, right? We are going to have a great time.....we are on the way to or from the San Juans, you know.....
Anything I can do or say to encourage you all? I guarantee it won't be blowing 50 knots up here in July!
Wednesday morning, 05:00, Sacramento - The wind is howling around my house and really thrashing the trees in my front yard. I hope the boat will be okay! Fortunately, the marina (Owl Harbor) is tucked into a small slough off the San Joaquin River, and the waterway is only 100 yards wide and runs at right angles to the wind direction of this storm, so I don't expect there will be any significant wind waves to damage the marina docks.
I hope ClamBeach has a well-sheltered berth for his boat, the Northern California coast gets really nasty in a blow.
It's currently aground in the Dry Tortugas. The guy who watches the depth sounder was making a margarita and didn't notice she was straying off course.
Frank Gloss (who is down there cruising right now), is probably tied off to her stern claiming salvage.
At work about a hundred feet from a cliff that drops about 150' to the ocean here several miles south of Half Moon Bay. Great view of the ocean. It's frothed up pretty good. It's blowing a good force 8. Spray coming up over the cliffs in some places like a blow hole. Not a day for a Cat-25. Wind gusting up to 60kts at times with driving rain. Only one small antenna blown down so far and power still PGE.
