From 1982 to 1984 My mediocre rock band and I hung out in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida playing the bar circuit (the Button, Agora South, Tree House..etc.), and recording our first album at Criteria Studios in Miami.

During my days off, I would hang out around the Oakland Park bridge and talk to the sailors who were tied up at the slips under the bridge.

This shot is around 1983 at Dirty Nellies next to, I think, the 17th street bridge and the intercoastal waterway. Adult beverage is a Rum Runner.

Morgan Out Island 41's and 51's were everywhere. I even got to go on new ones at the Bahia Mar boat show in 1982.

Then I got to go onboard a 60 foot Morgan Schooner.....WOW!!

The dream was cemented in my head from then on.

Thank goodness for the Catalina 25. She has taken me sailing (and on a nice boat too!), at an affordable price.

Funny thing: Now Catalina owns Morgan.

Thanks Mr. Butler.

The ad on Ebay doesn't say what model year the boat is, or what the "reserve" price is, so it's hard to guess the real value or condition of the boat. The current bid is $50,100, which seems low for a 51' yacht, unless it's in poor condition and in need of a lot of TLC.

Hi Larry,

Yea the price is low. A lot of those boats were put into charter service in the Bahamas and probably have the wear and tear to show it.

Everyone I met in Florida said the sailed "sideways" and couldn't go upwind to save their lives.

When you see one though, It is very impressive. A real "battleship" among cruisers.
