I bought a '82 Catalina 25 last August. The speakers with bulky teak mounts are placed smack in the middle of the wall separating the main cabin and head. I'd like to put in a clock, barometer and lantern but the speakers do not allow for much room when the table is stored against the wall. Has anyone else had this issue or have any ideas about where to relocate them? Thanks.

Hi there,

Welcome to the group!

The best place I found to mount the speakers inside the cabin was on the bulkhead at the bow end of each settee, at the end of each "shelf." This is the only photo I could find that shows where I put them ... you can barely see each speaker (Bose 151s) at the edges of the photo:

I'm happy with the location ... the sound is good, the speakers are out of the way, and they take up very little shelf space. Obviously, I've got an L-dinette, not the "traditional" interior like you've got ... maybe others with your same interior will have some additional ideas.

Good luck!

Thanks for the compliments Charlie & J.B. ... I really appreciate it. I've put a lot of work into my "baby" since I got her ... the previous owners wouldn't recognize her any more.

'Funny thing though ... had it not been for your compliments, I don't think I would have "stopped to smell the roses" ... I always seem to be wrapped up in what I want to work on next, rather than being happy with what I've already done.

I went digging in my old photos and found one that was posted in my boat's eBay ad ... you'd never know it was the same boat ... 'guess that means progress ...

Ok Buzz, what does the placard on your cabin wall say? Probably should start a cabin placard collection page somewhere.

Well, I don't particularly like it ... a PO put it there. I was going to remove it, but it became obvious to me that I would just damage the bulkhead, and there would be a "faded" spot underneath ... so, I left it there.

It says, "Boating is not a matter of life or death ... it's more important than that."

I think that most Catalina 25 owners that have a stereo installed on their boats use Bose 151's or similar, and most install them on the bulkhead at the end of the shelf above the settee, same as Buzz Maring, Frank Hopper, and myself have. It's the most logical place to put them and doesn't require cutting any big holes like you would have to do for flush mount speakers.
