I just purchased a 1997 C250wk. This boat has been dry sailed on Arizona since it was new. The boat has not been bottom painted. I plan on sailing this boat out of a high mountain lake where the water is very cold and clear. It will be in the water from June to October. My previous boat was a Viper 640 and it was dry sailed exclusively so I have no experience in this matter. Let me hear your opinions on this.

In Kansas we typically are in the water April through October. It is more than enough time to blister, we all paint and most barrier coat. Our drysailors can get away with not painting but part of what helps is how hot it is here in the summer, it bakes the hull out.

Tony,
I have a 1995 C250 WB which has never been bottom painted. It has been in two clear lakes in upstate New York its whole life, from May-September. The bottom does get some algae growth during the season, but I do scrub the bottom in the water a couple times a year. In the fall the bottom is cleaned and waxed before being covered for the winter. So I think you would be OK not painting it. Just my two cents worth. "Bear" on the hard in upstate N.Y.

For that amount of time in the water I would say DONT paint it. Any groth can be wiped off and a good waxing each year should be all you will need. Cold water will keep the growth down to a minimum so it should not be a problem. Try it for one season and see. You can aleays paint next season if it doesn't work out but once painted its a bitch to undo.
