On a cool, misty, March New England evening, I rented a copy... Cheesy plot, technical gaffes, VERY loose connection to A.C. history, and other annoying stuff, but some pretty good footage of 12-meter and International 14 sailing. Freemantle scenes bear some resemblance to the ones I taped from the real thing. But the premise of the rail meat building the boat designed by the lone aero engineer who never designed a boat was a bit much.
If you're feeling desparate, there's some good wave-crashing!

"Morgan, the Cup's right over there, and you're in our way."
For REAL sailing footage, I highly recommend the two PAL Productions 1994 and 1998 BOC Challenge/Around Alone documentaries, <i><b>Sailing The World Alone</b></i> narrated by Hal Holbrook and <i><b>Born To The Wind</i></b> narrated by Peter Fonda.
Or, of course, my copies of last year's America's Cup races.
Whenever I see a spinnaker pop out in a race, I can't help thinking, "Oh no! They're flying their Whomper!" You can almost hear the native drumbeat in the background!
<blockquote id="quote"><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id="quote">quote:<hr height="1" noshade id="quote">Is that native drum beat or the drums driving the slaves on the oars?<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="quote">As they were on their way out to the race course, the crew did a native war dance on deck. Come to think of it, you and Jody and I should have done the war dance at the last national regatta.
"a native war dance" In New Zealand it's called a "haka" - and when the Maori warriors do it it can scare the sxxt out of you! They can protrude their tongues further than "<i></i>Kiss" can... Derek
Well, they forgot DC... The story has absolutely nothing to do with anyone like him or what actually goes on in the AC... But then again, that could be, as Martha says, a good thing. I still like my Freemantle AC tapes much better than that movie.

Gary Jobson had just mentioned our lake when a jib blew out and the subject changed, almost 15 minutes of fame.
Reminded me in the crash scene of when an errant soling made it up over our waist for a second. Took away our barberhauler and made raised quite a rumble with the judges at the official protest after the race.
I could watch the AC coverage for hours. Sail track, multiple cameras including 'copter, sound...awsome! Demastings, blood, guys overboard, chutes splitting, tacking duals...hoowha!!Too bad they didn't cover the Vitton Cup last time (at least my chizzeling cable company didn't play the feed). I did get real tired of the same 2 cadillac ads tho.

Wonder if I can play with her 300K plus Hinckley picknick boat while she is, eh, on sebattical....
Andy: There is a DVD titled, "Official Film Compilation Footage 2002 - 2003 Louis Vuitton Cup" that isn't too bad. It's 120 minutes and if I remember correctly I ordered it from North Sails...the is a web site, www.louisvuittoncup.com that might still taking orders??? Haven't check there lately...Dan #727
I checked the web site and it dosn't connect at this time...
Thanks Dan...I do have tapes of the ESPN coverage for the past two 'cups. One of my favorites is when Prada's $600K carbon mast snaped like a toothpick, I think they were in a prelim against Stars and Stripes. They were out practicing with their "spare" mast that afternoon... can you imagine? The AC has gotten out of the realm of just rich guys racing their toys and has become massive corporate enterprizes,(kinda like current politics). Wind was pure fantasy but fun...Kinda like the fantasy I have between the time I buy my powerball ticket and the drawing! Damn I'd love to own a J109....
