I'm buying a Suzuki 9.9 long shaft with electric start and a remote. Where is the best place to mount the remote in the cockpit? It looks like the PO put it just aft of the Starboard cockpit coaming just in front of the shallow storage locker (there are holes drilled and cable organizers leading back to the engine). I'm worried it will take up some seating space. Is there a better place to put it?
If you look close at the cockpit, you can see where my old remote was mounted. I also mounted my new remote there. It does cause a little problem if you are using the engine, have had it kicked. You just need to be in control. I have banged my leg numerous times on the remote. But I do like it so I don't have to lean over the transom to mess with the engine.
I installed mine below the small locker on the stbd side, as close to the cockpit sole as was practical. It's as much out of the way there as can be, and still handy to use from the helm. The control cables run through the stbd cockpit drain and across the rear of the transom to the port side O/B. The power cables run through a hole drilled in the lower center of the transom, (rubber booted and sealed) into the space under the aft berth and thence to the battery. Derek
