I'm looking to upgrade my backstay adjuster to allow for more raking of the mast heading downwind and for more bend in the mast heading upwind. I'd like to put in a 12:1 purchase system...I'm wondering if anyone knows how many pounds of pressure is exert
Sounds like a question for Catalina's technical assistance department, i.e., Jerry (sp?) Douglas. If you leave him a voice mail(and maybe now they're using e-mail) he's very good about getting back to people. Steve Madsen #2428 OJ (Ode to Joy)
Doug - maybe I'm missing out on something but my only question is "why?". I have the simplest adjuster possible - two sheaves connected by an O-ring across the backstay, with a lanyard to pull it down. The tension on the 2 stays keeps it in place and to
I have the same type adjuster on "Life o' Riley" now...I am looking for far more adjustability (is this a word?). I would like to have the ability to pretty much let off the entire backstay and use the rear shrouds to rake the mast forward head

A 12:1 could very well get me in trouble...I'll probably go with the 8:1 configuration offered by Catalina Direct (although I'll probably throw my own together from West Marine parts and with the help of
Doug - to reiterate, why bother spending that money? If you go to the old home page, somewhere you will find an article titled "Fleet 2 Speed Tips" Read, mark, learn and inwardly digest! It has been my bible for the last few years and it is accurate and
Premature posting...I hate when that happens. What I meant to say...
I do appreciate your advice. The whole reason I am interested in exploring the adjustable backstay with more travel is due to some information from Jeff Pierce's Racing Tips section
Doug - it would seem to be a good idea. However, I don't know how loose you carry your backstay & forestay. I have about 8 - 10" sag in the forestay and the backstay will wave about a foot with the adjuster off. I can pull down on the lanyard until the 2
