I really like the Catalina 25 for all the ammenities it offers. But looking at this months Good Old Boat magazine introduced me to the Pacific Seacraft 25 ft.
What a boat!! and a 25 footer than can cruise blue waters, I'm impressed. Check out the interior craftsmanship. Also did a search on Yacht world and the 27 is even nicer.
Before you get too excited about it, check out the Price $$$$$$$. I too like these boats, but ouch. I could buy several Catalinas for the price of a Pacific Seacraft.
Check out the "Norsea 27" too. Downside... got an extra $40K (used boat) lying about? Note that these boats have about double the displacement of the C25.
Caliber and Cape Dory, though expensive, are nice boats as well. Keeping focus, we can't all own the do all end all of boats. Catalina satisfies many sailors requirements, perhaps the most important being affordability while remaining quite safe and seaworthy. If it weren't for Catalina, many sailors would never sea water on their own bottom!

What did these guys do? Just recover from a knockdown?
Our J/30 team's primary competition is a Hobie 33; very nice boat with very nice Kevlar sales. We swapped second and third place all season long. Not first, you say? No, that belongs to a professionally maintained J/30 that is raced with a professional crew. Wouldn't you get tired of beating the local-yokels by five minutes in every single race? Why bother? :-( Go pick on somebody your own skill.

For cruising, I'll take a comfortable cruiser--for racing, I'd go one-design and compete against the other skippers--not the boat designers. ("Professional crew"?? Yee-gads!)
