A while back there were some posts about engines with "High Thrust Props". I have an 8HP Nissan, and under calm conditions with little or no current I can usually make 4, sometimes 5 knots. Is this about the best I can hope for, or would a high thrust pr

I doubt very much that a high thrust prop will impact your top speed. The biggest difference I've noticed is the HTP's ability to (1) get you up to your desired speed and (2) back down to a dead stop rather quickly.

8 hp should be enough to get you to hull speed at less than full throttle--my current Honda (not high thrust) gets there by around 2/3 throttle or less. The "high thrust" concept assumes a heavy displacement hull that will never go very fast. The pitch

Thanks for the info. I think I'll see if one is available for the Nissan. Even if it doesn't speed me up, it may still be worth it because my marina is in fairly open water, so more power docking would be helpful. My anticavitation is about 2" below th
