Hi Albert, Having just been in the Keys for over two weeks I'm envious of you. I know you'll have a good time. We spent our time mostly bayside too as we had prevailing easterly winds. My favorite place to anchor out is off Shell, or Lignumvitae keys. They even have some mooring balls there, but only about 3 per key. They used to have more, but I guesse they blew away or something. The ones that are left are spaced out so one night we just dropped the hook. If you go under the Channel five bridge you will have Long Key Bight on the right. This will give you shelter in all but Northeast winds. Very grassy bottom, so a Danforth won't work too well. If you look at the map of snake creek, the crossing with the drawbridge, the channel makes a Y on bayside. The right side of the Y is the main channel, while the left is deep in the middle, and if you go out to the end, it is a great anchorage. Unless there is no wind, then the mosquitoes and bugs will get you. At least you will be in a place where you can go Oceanside if conditions are favorable. The bridge tender monitor's channel 9. Up the channel from the Coast Guard station is Cobra marine for beer, ice and gas. They also have a clean shower free for customers. So like I said, beer, ice, gas, shower. Life is good Have a great time. My favorite cruising guide is the Cruising Guide to the Florida Keys by Capt. Frank Papy. If you make it as far as Marathon, the west side of Burnt point is excellent.
