We want to replace all of our cushions on our '82 C25 that we bought last August. We do not want to do the work ourselves. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to have it done? Catalina gave us a price of $1600 but I wondered if anyone else had other ideas. Thanks.

On my '81 I bought about 10-15 yds of hunter green Sunbrella upholstery grade fabric for about $150. I then took my cushions to a local upholstery shop and asked them to gently remove the old brown plaid covers, and sew the new fabric around the old foam (providing the foam is OK), and onto the old brown vinyl underside. Using the old vinyl bottoms allows you to keep the zippers and buttons in the original placement. He wrapped the old foam w/ batting too, and put "piping" around the edges to dress it up a bit. I think the total labor bill was like $400 or so. They turned out great, and I'm going into my 3rd season w/ them and they've been durable too! Hope this helps, Chris #2672 SR/SK Lake Norman, NC
I did the same last season. It really worked out well and only cost around $350 to due all the cushions. Any sewing store/outlet can provide close-out material at a great price.
I've noticed as time goes on that basic v-berth and quarterberth dimensions are pretty much the same for an awful lot of boats of various sizes. I think if you shop around carefully on the web or ask the right questions of marina operators you may find someone who has a set to get rid of because they got theirs replaced. Most won't be great, but some may be nicer than the C25 originals.
I replaced all of the interior cushion fabric on my '89 WK/TR Mark IV, w/Diesel Inboard last year. Took the cushion covers to a local upholstry shop, picked out some nice sofa-type fabric and had them use the old cushions for patterns. We re-used the vinyl backs with the snaps. I bought new foam and used an electric carving knife to cut and glued on the fiberfill batting on the front edge of the settee cushions. Took the foam to the shop and they inserted the foam into the covers and added the button tufting. Probably spent close to $1000, but then my purpose was to have cushions that looked the way I wanted them to, not to save money. Got a Hunter Green heavy fabric with Maroon accent spots, similar to the original Maroon with Tan accents. Followed up with a Hunter Green indoor-outdoor carpet and Maroon Chenille accent pillows. Sharp interior for a classic boat. Have also replaced the original blue sailcover and bimini cover with Hunter Green Sunbrella custom covers. It's OK to spend money on a hobby, right? We bought 22 yds of fabric on eBay for about $50. Paying a local upholstry about $500 to steam clean the foam and put the covers together with new marine vinyl, snaps, and piping.
The Admiral (Judy) bought 7 yds of close out fabric (tropical fish pattern) for $1.49 a yard and made slip covers, cutting small holes in the back to accomodate the snaps and leaving the vinyl in place. She says that if it fades in a few years she'll do it again....nice to have a frugal lady! Derek
