Hah! You all thought you got rid of me....I was sailing... 2500 mile road trip, to the Sarasota FL area.
In fact I discovered a trailer sailors dream. Cut's Edge Marina at the end of 10th street in Palmetto. A secure dry storage facility with a nice ramp. Launched/retrieved, and stored the rig for ten days behind lock and key for $50.-
As far as the sailing, 95 percent sunny weather, high 70's/low 80's, no humididdity, winds 10-15 knots on average, no bugs. Absolutely perfect. Saw the gulf, the inner coastal, dolfins, manatees, sea turtle. Everything straight out of the magazines. Also hooked up with Tropical Sleigh....
I really enjoyed all the mods I made. Even got to use the air a few times, just to take the heat out of the cabin after a day of baking in the sun...The kick-up rudder and depthsounder were not a luxury, but in fact a survival tool on the Florida West coast....All my sail handling lines led aft worked great. I went back to single line reefing for the first reef, and in conjunction with the topping lift to take the load off the main it worked great. The only "Catalina strikes again" gripe I have, was that the reefing lines kept running off the sheaves in the back of the boom, and jamming up Guess I'll have to put some large washers in there to stop that from happening. Does anyone have any off the shelve proven solutions?
My employer must have a locater beacon under my rear bumper, because as I pulled into my street they cordially invited me to get my a&& back on an airplane at 0530 hrs the next morning....
So, when I get home I'll slap a bunch of pics on the web and update this post with a link.....and here they are:
Oscar, I thought you were in PA, not Sacramento. How long are you in CA for? If you need a fix we will probably splash in a couple of weeks, if you are here that long.
Daaaaveeee!!!! There's nowhere to hide is there. Fire Island sounds like fun to me!

Twelve hours.... I fly airplanes. On layovers in hotels I check the forum on their computer, and sign off from the city du jour.....
BTW, I've updated the first post to include the pic-link.

Thanks for sharing. If you end up in Seattle making BU's and need a sailing fix I can be ready on fairly short notice. Your pictures did remind me of a question. I like the Dodger you made. And I have convinced the passenger (everyone else calls her the Adfmiral) to make me one. Do you have any plans for it. Thanks
That is a Walker Bay, 8'. It tows great, sails great, and is indestructible. I've accidentally dropped it from eight feet up, not even a mark, it's rode up against a barnicle covered piling, just sand the "rub rail" and she's as good as new. Only drawback is that it's a little cramped with two adults and two kids..... Finally, I have a large ratchet strap that ties Lady Kay down to the trailer that runs accross the cockpit just about where the main sheet is. The dink goes on top of this, upside down, with the bow on a soft pad "nudging" into the rail behind the fuel locker. One little line to tie the dink to the strap, and it's secure and can't do any damage. It all fits perfectly.

Hey Oscar, See ya made it home safely!! Great meeting up with you! Thanks for the photos, you have a super camera, and a wonderful family. I'm still amazed how you organized your boat for a week out with the clan. So cozy!
Had I but knowed you were passing thru Venice would have stopped for a gam, perhaps you layed over at Higel Park dock, the Venice Town transient dock? Orion is next door at the Yacht Club. Fair winds, ron srsk #2343 SW FL
Have you been able to store the Walker Bay on deck or do you just tow it in all weather? Also, have you had any trouble with the dink hitting the outboard? We towed our (free!) hard dink a couple times & if the seas were 2' & anywhere but dead on our nose we had trouble with our dink hitting our tilted-up outboard.
