My spreader boots disintegrated when I lowered my mast and took my shrouds off last fall. With the flat spreaders we have on the 250's I don't see much opportunity for sail chafe, but I could use some opinions on whether they're worth having and if so, where do you find 'em. The only kind I've been able to find are designed for round spreaders.
Rig rap covering the joint between the spreader tip and the extrusion and covering all seizing wire on the shroud will get the job done.
The problem is that rigrap only survives one season well so it becomes an annual maintenance item. The second problem with rigrap is that the ends of the siezing wire must be very carefully tucked away but this is true for the leather boots as well.
There are some larger leather boots that can be used but be sure that there aren't any folds when strapping them on as any folds that leave a corner will chaff the sail.
If only using a 110 headsail, the jib is never a concern, its the main only. A drifter will get into the wide spreaders of a water ballast but if one is careful to leave it off a slight amount... its no problem.
Personally, I use rigrap and then cover it with white tape.
I bought some of these, I think they would work well for you. They are very cheap compared to the traditional rubber boots. I bought them to put on top of my stanchions to protect my tarp
Frank the 250 spreaders are flat "foils", about 4 inches wide. There are no off the shelf boots for them that I'm aware of. I also agree with Arlyn that, except for the drifter, not much runs into it. I use tape to cover the wire. I replace it every year.

The boots that Frank mentions from sailnet are the same as my dealer put on our new 250. They have the same ones on page 1018 of the new W.M. catalog. Depending on the size the sailnet price plus shipping might be about the same. So far they have worked great for both my headsails. You definitely can't beat the price compared to the plastic boots for the C25.
I also had a problem finding protectors that would "fit". Went with the Harken Chafe Protectors from West Marine (pg 864 of the 2003 cataloge, model 453415) work great the past 3 years and no problems.
