The Newport - Ensenada race starts at noon on Friday April 23. It would be really fun to sail out after work and see the boats go by. Over 600 are expected to enter and Roy Disney has a whole new Pyewacket built just for this race.
Anyone know how fast a ULDB sled can run downwind and about what time these boats would be coming by San Diego/Mission Bay (60 miles from the finish line)?? How far offshore would you expect them?
Newport is about 75 miles from Mission Bay. I know the tacticians decide to go inside or outside of the Coronado islands, which are 17 miles south from Mission Bay and about 10 miles offshore. If we left at 3 PM and motorsailed 10 miles out we ought to see some of the big boys go by.
