I'm a proud new owner of a 1979 Cat 25. While working on getting the ship in shape, I discovered that the bilge pump A.)didn't work and B.) was not hooked up! To hook up my new pump, the wiring excersize is easy enough but I'm wondering where the ejector hose connects. I know there's a hole on the portside bow that looks like it could be a canidate but wanto to be sure I install this properly instead of sinking.... Thanks in advance for your help!
Welcome to the forum and the fleet, Austin72. The original bilge pump is manual and the line should run from the bilge aft into the sail locker, where the pump is probably located, and then aft to a port side transom through hole that is above the water line. However, your configuration may be slightly different. There are good schematics located under the Brochures & Manuals section on the Association's home page.
I installed an automatic pump on Antares and tee'd the line into the original aft of the manual pump, in order to avoid drilling another hole in the boat. Other possibilities include the sink/icebox drain amidships or the head sink drain forward.
I prefer to have a bilge pump discharge WELL above the waterline... I put mine high up on the transom. For a decent volume pump you're looking at 1-1/4" hose. The sink thru-hull is too small in it's stock form. If you put your pump discharge anywhere near the waterline (or under it) you need an anti-siphon loop (minimal) and/or an anti-siphon valve (another thing to go haywire).
Most of the reading I've done on bilge pumps recommends keeping things as simple and failproof as possible...
