I spent some quality time on the boat during my spring break...Wednesday, Thursday and Friday morning...sailing some each day. Wednesday evening, Jim joined my wife and I on a Pacific run to check out our Memorial weekend course for the National Race!! Got back into the dock well after dark. Turns out our course is exactly the right length.
Thursday I was joined by a fellow teacher and his young son. He'd seen every pirate movie currently running. The "blokes" on the shore were cannon fodder for him and prayed for bigger waves to crash through. At seven years old he took the tiller and sailed my boat out the channel and into the Pacific for the afternoon run. He's ready to have his own boat.
Later that evening, Jim and Mike "forced" me to strike the 110 and hoist the 150 and out into the Pacific for the evening run. We sailed mostly due west into the sunset and only turned around when the sun had set, some 5 plus miles out toward Catalina Island. We were thinking of 17 more hours to get to the island but Mike's wife would have hung him and then quartered him.
We sailed back for most of the return but ended up using the iron jenny to get to the slip. That was 9:30 by then. Late dinner for me, home for my Fleet 7 friends. BTW, we almost never see another sailboat out this late on the Pacific in our mid-week sails.
Friday the winds were real light but I managed a motor cruise into Mission Bay with NO boats out.
Had to take care of projects and get ready for the new school week this weekend so did not get to San Diego to sail. I will probably leave from school Wednesday and sail mid-week again.
New saying by us in Fleet 7 each time we get back to the slip: "This was the best sail we've ever had...since the last one". It just keeps getting better and better, right?!!

BTW, Jim had his digital camera and I'm sure he'll have some pics posted pronto of this trip out on the big pond.
