FYI, Spike is amassing an amazing number of hours putting together and finishing the "new and improved" Ships Store part of this website. ALL WITHOUT PAY. I know she'll probably hit me with a gaff hook for bringing this up since she really does enjoy her work on this project, but the time seems to adding up to lots and lots of hours each week...as in up to 8 hours a day for the past week or so.
Now if it were me I'd probably start losing my enthusiasm in, oh, say about 2 to 3 hours and then I'd begin to think better of my gig with volunteering my time for the association.
I've been volunteered many times in my past to do big jobs and I did them with not too much complaining (she's NOT complaining which tells me she's a fantastic lady with a heart of gold). But after awhile, you lose your zeal for giving up your own free time. And she has said NOTHING of the kind to me and in fact has not spoken to me about EVER giving up doing this work. She loves doing this kind of work and is, I've heard, doing another groups (Fencing club?) website, also.
Where am I going with this? You decide.......
BTW, neither Jim nor Spike put me up to saying this so kick my butt if you don't like what you've read here. Just my humble opinion, of course

This post came up within a few minutes of my post telling of my wanting to buy a shirt.

Please, please, don't take this as a criticism. I really appreciate all the hard work Spike, and all of the other folks do for this organization. I have done work like this in the past for other organizations, and I do know it can get to be a pain.

So I'll be patient, and ever so greatful when it comes about.

Thanks again

Once a year we have a fundraiser-auction for the school my kids attend. There is a theme (this year it's Hollywood, I did not pick that) but there needs to be art work done. Letter head, props....decorations. For some reason I appear to be the only person that has (barely) enough talent and the drive to do the job. There are also countles other people who put in as many and more hours as I do on other jobs. Myself I'm talking 100+ hours every year.

Why? 'Caus someone's got to do it or it wouldn't get done..... 'caus its fun, and everyone appreciate's your effort, and no one has the heart to critisize it.... and because we raise serious dough for the school.

Those of us that volunteer don't think about it too much. We just do it......thanks Spike.

OK, I'll share:

Karen may be on the verge of getting a paying job on another web site. Keep your fingers crossed. I don't think it will affect her committment to this site. Just be patient sometimes....

If you are like me you have a link to the forum section and may not take a look at the rest of the wonderfull offers this site now has. I happened to wander outside the forum last night and was impressed by the added features of this site. It was great before and now it is outstanding (that is, even better than great!). Thank you.

Thanks Gary. Most of us I'm sure have had a fair measure of appreciation for the work that Spike does... but I think you further clarified the efforts she has given. We are fortunate indeed.

My experience with volunteers suggests the axiom is true: if you want something done, ask a busy person.

You can't imagine what I depend on Spike for: taking care of the house, family, farm animals, plants, trees, home business, cutting the grass, whacking the weeds, taking the kids to band practice, taking them to track, getting dinner on the table, fixing things on the boat when I need 3 hands or someone small. Where would I be without her love and her committment that has resulted in over 20 happy years together? (And many more to come.....)

Oh yes, although I am the Tell Tale editor, she printed out all the labels, took care of making the copies, stuffed envelopes, and mailed everything.

Yes, it's time for a shrine to Karen...here she is:

And her adoring other half
