I've got a question about my motor mount for Ananda. In winterizing for the first time I removed the Honda 9.9 OB for storage. I also removed the cracked plastic "Starboard", which was attached by 4200 to see if I could replace it. What remains is some serious gelcoat repair to the dings from the dock and engine (previous owner) and a metal backing plate for the OB screws to tighten against.
My questions is what is the best way to mount an outboard onto the transom? Should I go ahead and replace the plastic and metal mounts with the same items? The price on the plastic sheet from Catalina Yachts is around $50.00 for the 8"x8" square. Ridiculous! Or is there some other method that would work better? I'm thinking the best solution would be an inverted "J" type of design made of metal or marine-proof plastic. Does anyone have any ideas or opinions on this?
Well I'm not sure that it has the UV propertise of King Starboard, I used a piece of plastic obtained at Harbor Freight and Tool in the form of a package of two cutting boards. Saw it saturday so its still available. I've had mine on the boat since 2000 and it looks great yet.
