We installed a new Garralick motor mount on our transom this winter. It has been great. It pulls the motor completly out of the water, its sturdy, and my wife can raise and lower our 100# outboard.
But... I just found this past trip to the launch ramp that the large aluminum nuts that are hand tighted to raise and lower the boat had locked themselves to the stainless threaded rod. It was pretty frustrating to be ready to splash but unable to drop the outboard. I had to make a trip to the hardware store to buy another set of channel locks. We sail in salt water so I'm sure we have a little galvanic corrosion going on here between the dissimilar metals. I had to use two pair of channel locks to loosen one side enough to drop the motor. I put some McLube on it that day and made sure to flush it as well as I could. I still have to work on loosening the other side. I was thinking that maybe some bicycle chain wax would be a good lubricant/protectant for this. Any ideas?
