John, So far my wife and I have been doing all the work ourselves. I purchased the window material from WM, it is 30 mil. I picked up an old White sewing machine for $70. This machine weighs about 50 lbs and is all metal construction. We have done fairly well sewing through the Sunbrella material and the plastic. We were almost through with the front panel when the machine started giving us problems so next week I will take it to the shop I purchaced it from for some instruction, I believe it is operator problems not machine. The photos you have posted really help see how your Quaker friends have constructed your dodger/bimini. I see that you have installed a solid support in the back. How does this work and will it interfer with the winch handle? Once again, thanks for sharing.

good luck doing it your self Ed. Two years ago I re-did my interior cushions my self after the sticker shock at the local upholsters. Have you noticed that upholster is almost an anagram for hold-up?
That was about as far as I was willing to go with my sewing skills.
The aft leg is set far enough out to allow a complete turn on the winch with a 10 in handle. However most of the time I do a partial turn racheting. When comming about I swing so fast that the genoa is usually in before the wind re-powers the sail. So I am mostly racheting to get the set just right. I think the quick tacking probably comes from having grown up racing snipes on Reeds Lake in Grand Rapids MI. Keep me posted on your progress and post some pix of your completed project.
