Had a great 3 hour sail today with my son (a total novice sailor) and my 18-yr old granddaughter (also a total novice!). Winds were wierd even for Canyon Lake - blowing 18 - 20 when we left the marina (ran a 100% and a reefed main - we weren't racing! ) and then it went up & down like a yo-yo! Even sat in a hole for 2 - 3 minutes!). Temp in the high 70's and altho' the water temp was only 68 degrees Amy went swimming with her dog (a 10-week old rotweiler mix). Well, she's recently arrived from UK and 68 is warm over there! A great time was had by all Derek

Your son is a "novice" sailor??? I would think with his lineage, he would be crewing in the America's Cup.
68 degrees would be warm for Lake Erie. Currently, the surface temp is 44 degrees and that coooold spray in the face will certainly keep one from falling asleep at the wheel..or tiller!
"Your son is a "novice" sailor??? I would think with his lineage, he would be crewing in the America's Cup." Like me, Don, he came late to sailing... He's a GM for a Red Robin restaurant and works far too long hours (when he could be sailing)! Derek
