I have a couple of foot-long scratches in the gel coat on the hull that are too shallow to repair by filling. Can they be removed by sanding and buffing? If so, are there products that can be used to restore the shine afterward?

If the scratches don't dictate filling (you would never want to sand-out a scratch in gelcoat) then rubbing compound followed by polishing compound will work. I've tried several different products and found No. 7 to work the best, especially when used wi
