Went sailing this past Saturday Lake Lanier, GA. Great day! Gentle breezes, warm sun. However, before we got started we let down the ob and broke off a kind of clamp on the throttle. It still runs but you have to hold the throttle open because it idles down on its own. Any suggestions as to how this can be repaired/replaced? The ob is an old Johnson 6 hp. Still starts up and runs w/o any problems.

Only the obvious one...take to a Johnson/Evinrude dealer for repair.

I have bad luck with my Johnson Sailmaster OB 9.9. Cooked head requiring milling, 3 water pumps, failed magneto replaced, Fwd/Rev detents requiring adjustment. I hate it, but we gotta have iron wind sometimes.

I replaced my lock on my 96-9.9 Pretty cheap part at dealer(less than $20) You have to get the twist grip off which required squeezing it just right. Inside the grip there are 2 spacer things that do not float! After you have the handle off it is a piece of cake.

Good luck,Tom.

thanks for your replies, Tom and Jim. I think I'll try to get the grip off and look for the part.
