Here is some pictures of our weekend out on the boat if anyone wants to see them. There are pictures of the first part of our (my wife's) redecorating of the interior and too many pictures of my dog.
Just figured some people up north may like to see what the Chesapeake Bay in April is looking like these days - in the 80's this weekend!
Great pics, Jared. Beautiful dog too. Question about your gimballed oil lamp...Does that work well for you? I'm considering getting one for when I overnight, but was worried it would smoke and stain the ceiling of the boat.
I have not tried the oil lamp yet, so I have no idea. There was a container of oil on the boat in the locker and it was only half full, so I suppose the last guy used it without burning the boat down. I will fire her up next time I am down there and let you know.
I know several people with boats that use them and love them, i have not noticed any issues with them. I imagine the old art of wick trimming and oil quality would play a role.
You must come over and play with us over on the rappahanock, the more boats the better. We race all the time!! Douglas Andersons Catalina 25 #4232 ( in which I crew on ) has won high point non-spin for the last 2 years for the river. It's always better to race on other peoples boats ;). This past weekend I raced in the j29 invitational at fishing bay. It was a blast but we were not even near there class in racing skills. It put a little hurt in the ego, but there is always a bigger fish. Anyway nice shots. I am going to leave my clubs web addy, check it out!! It has the race schedule on it. If ya don't race, no worries.. come visit sometime! Jonathan T Barrett http://www.ypyc.org "Hang Loose" #3047 1982 sk.sr.
I will try to see if I can get a picture of you guys racing. I was out Saturday morning doing some crew training stuff for the races at FBYC this weekend and we pulled up to the windward mark just in time to see everyone round the marks and throw up the spinnakers. There was another person and I who are complete novices at races, so that was pretty cool to see from right there up against the mark. I think the other person who was with us snapped some photos of all the boats racing with the spinnakers up, so I will see. I'll have to make my way up to Yankee Point and check it out. A couple of my neighbors have an Irwin there that they just got.
Lived in Colonial Heights VA, 1990 to 1993. We (my wife and I)did a lot of patrols with the Coast Guard Auxiliary our of Deltaville. We crewed a 40' trawler. Anyway, nice area. We kind of miss it, especially in the winter. We're now in Northern Michigan on the Keweenaw Peninsula (the part that sticks out into Lake Superior). Great sailing area when it's warm enough to do so.
Wow , a family from northern michigan just joined our club about 2 years ago. They sailed there Cat30 on the lakes (Hobglobin). It said it was nice to call his buddies last week and let them know we just went sailing last weekend.
Anyway .. Jared...would love to see them pics...and look forward to seeing you come around smith point..
