1) Ordered replacement Sheaves from Bellpat marine 2) Ordered 65' pre-spliced mainsail halyard from Sailnet 3) Ordered 65' pre-spliced headsail halyard from sailnet
Took mast down, replaced old sheaves with new. Cleaned up corrosion and 'lubed' fittings on the masthead. Put new halyards on, taking care to make sure they ran the right direction. (Main halyard hoisting to rear etc. Raised mast.
Did this to Wind Lass when I had her. Got sheaves from Catalina Direct. ALL Rope dont worry about direction they are the same end for end. You might want to check the length and run aft to the cockpit. Sheaves were $12. You might also consider while you have the mast down instaling a topping lift. The old pig tail gets tired.
My story is a combination of Doug's and Clam's... I got everything BUT the sheaves from CD--I got the sheaves from Belpat because CD's were known (at the time) to be slightly too small in diameter, so that the halyards would rub on the casting. Belpat custom-makes sheaves to our specs--they probably have them in stock now due to the number of orders they've gotten from this group. CD now talks about "new" sheaves for the C-25, but I don't know whether they increased the diameter.
What I did get from CD was the halyards (high-tech zero-stretch line), mast base plate, swivel blocks, deck organizers, and clutches--all for leading the main halyard and other stuff back to the cockpit. (My genny is on a roller so its halyard still cleats on the mast.) The package price was pretty good, although I probably could have done a little better by mixing and matching from various discount sources.
If you haven't led yours back to the cockpit, it's a great addition, and this would be the time to do it. As Clam says, you should be able to find several threads on this by doing a Search on "halyard".
Stewart, Been there, done that! Peice of cake! Like the other skippers say, get the sheaves from BelPat Marine. It's a custom fit!
It's one of the best and easiest improvements I've made to "Itza Dew Sea". Oh yeah.. and getting rid of the pig tail and putting on a topping lift was another relatively inexpensive and smart improvement.
The best part is... I learned it all right here. What a great information source!
