Reuben: I heard on the Weather Channel that Northeast Minnesota is getting a bunch of rain today. Is that where you're located? Most of my Minnesota relatives live near the Twin Cities area; cousins, aunts/uncles. One aunt/uncle recently sold the farm near Wadena/Sebeka and moved south to near Little Rock, ARK. Got tired of the snow after retirement I guess. Hope the flooding, if it happens, doesn't affect you folks, eh?
Hi Gary. We live about 2 hours north of the Twin Cities, 90 miles west of Duluth; our area didn't get the rain in the forecast, and we could've used it. But we were happy yesterday for the dry weather, which allowed for a pleasant and safe (if chilly) crane-in.
Interesting you mention Wadena. 2 years ago I almost bought a Westerly Centaur that was sitting in a backyard in Wadena; really a lovely little cruiser, lovingly kept, with 6 foot headroom and those cool/oddball twin keels. But wisdom (finances) suggested we wait, and later we ended up buying the 250 launched yesterday. And which boat do we find docked across from us on Leech Lake? The Centaur, with new owners from North Dakota. So we'll get to compare what could've been, with what is.
We've got, so far as I can tell, one of 3 Catalinas on Leech - the others are a 28 and a 32. There may be more, time will tell. The popular boat here seems to be the S2, of which we saw half a dozen yesterday alone.
I put Leigh-Marie in yesterday and it was mid-50's and cloudy, although not too much wind. We did get just a bit of rain just as I got her in the water, but then it stopped. I just got back from visiting her today (had to make sure she was still floating!) and it was 49 degrees and terribly, terribly windy. It was so cold! I froze putting the boom on. I'm glad I didn't launch her today. It's supposed to be great in Muskegon for this coming weekend, though. It's Launch Day this coming Saturday at the Muskegon Yacht Club where I keep my boat, so it's always a fun day.
Mine was just the fourth boat in, so Leigh-Marie is lonely. I assured her that her friends would be coming as I pointed to all the boats still on the hard yet.
