I've noticed my '79 SR/FK leaks around the windows, and I was just going to pull off the aluminum frames and caulk them up. But then I was lurking around on Catalina Direct and saw this weatherstripping: http://tinyurl.com/33x5q and http://tinyurl.com/2p66u
(Sorry, don't know how to create the fancy links...) Anyhow, would this work in lieu of caulk? Has anyone installed this stuff?
Even with the replacement U Channel from CD, you still have to caulk the sh*t out of the windows to prevent leaks. I redid a few windows before last season using the new gasket and on a couple of windows I still had leaks because I only caulked them when I should have caulked the sh*t out of them.
The biggest pain when I did my windows was removing the grey bubblegum-like sealant that was on the window frames. This stuff was tenacious!
When I removed the tarps this year I discovered another leak in a window, but just yesterday I followed the advice someone posted recently and I bought a tube of flowable window sealant from the auto parts store and laid a tiny bead around all suspect window joints. If this works, then it is a heck of a lot easier than pulling a window.
Thanks for the reply, that's good to know. So, I don't need to pull the window with flowable? That would be great, because I'm not leaking much and will probably exacerbate the problem if I'm following your lead here. So, while still on caulking the Sh*t out of stuff, I'm doing the chain plates as well, but planned more of nicely caulking them, not perfoming the Ex-Lax methof you describe.

That's the theory behind this particular sealant.

Well, when I referenced the caulking the sh*t out of them, I meant in areas that are unseen from both inside and outside the boat. One of my windows did have a caulk job from a previous owner that looked like he applied the caulk with a roller.
If you do order the window glazing from Catalina Direct, don't have them sucker you into buying the caulk....Its just clear life caulk.. New glazing really does make a difference!!
Mine weren't leaking around the glazing... but between the window and the cabin. IMHO, you'll probably need to pull them. However, you might try the flowable sealer first.
It's not that big a chore to pull them anyway, unless somebody's put them in with 5200.

I agree it's not that big a deal to pull them, but it sure was hard to remove the old bubblegum sealant!
