I've seen a teak combination plate, cup, utensil, and paper towel holder that looks neat. I saw a picture of one mounted beside the companionway (on another type of boat)and was wondering if it could be mounted over the sink on the port side of the companionway on our C25. Of course, we don't have a vertical surface, but I wonder if that would matter. Any thoughts? Other ideas?
I've thought about getting one of those and how to mount it. If you're will to have it not be on true vertical you could drill 2 bolt holes through the upper edge of the coaming with the wood trim and do various things to hide it such as countersinking the heads into the trim piece(if that matters). Round-headed bolts through the coaming for the lower might not look very bad or hurt anyone sitting there; white paint or excess caulk would hide pretty well (again, if that matters).
Mine is mounted on the Starboard side of the boat... the cabin sides are thick enough there to take some short screws. (I imagine the port side is the same).
Downside of going over the sink is that there's not a lot of room to get in the sink/icebox already.
Thanks, I had hoped the cabin side was thick enough to use screws.
That's good advice about checking to see if it will fit on the port side without blocking access to the icebox. I hadn't thought about that possibility.
Which rack do you have? Do you like it? I see that they are sold in a lot of different configurations: plates, cups, utensils, paper towels, spice, etc. I'm thinking about one that would hold plates and cups. It would be easy enough to fit a stand-alone paper towel holder above and behind the port setee.
The one I have is simple and small. It holds 10" plates and 4 cups (nesting ones).
I have a bigger one that I bought long ago for the V23 and never mounted. Plates, cups, paper towels and two other compartments. It's too big for the spot by the C25 companionway and will have to go on the main bulkhead... but I think it may get in the way when sitting at the dinette.
Will get around to fitting it someday soon and see how it 'feels'.
